Life Sciences Nova Scotia members 3DBioFibR and FinLeaf Technologies have earned national recognition at Startupfest 2026 in Montréal, held July 8 to 10, with both companies securing major investment awards. Startupfest is a global gathering of entrepreneurs, investors, and mentors, known for showcasing emerging companies through pitches, programming, and a national awards program.
3DBioFibR, based in Halifax, received the $100,000 Dual-Use and Sovereign Tech Investment Prize. The company is focused on scaling the production of collagen fibres, a naturally occurring material used in medical research, tissue engineering, and advanced biomaterials. By increasing access to high-quality collagen at scale, 3DBioFibR is enabling new possibilities across life sciences and healthcare innovation.
FinLeaf Technologies, based in Nova Scotia, was awarded the $100,000 Canadian Impact Investment Prize, along with an additional $25,000 Startup in Residence Prize. The company is developing a way to take waste from fish farming and turn it into fertilizer for crops. By recovering and reusing these nutrients, FinLeaf helps reduce environmental impact while supporting more sustainable food production.
